What crystals can help my sensitive, empathic son? He easily becomes sad or worried.
Question: Hello, first let me say I love the page! May I ask you a question? My 12 year old son is having a lot of what I think might be empathy starting. He is so upset of everything that most his age would give a second thought too. I'm not sure what to do as I am new to crystals and wondered if there is one that I could use to help calm him down? I've asked him if he has had dreams about the things he worries about, and he said no. He said it's like he just gets this overwhelming feeling of sadness or worry about our family, the world, or pets and the future. I would be very thankful for any help you might be able to give.
Answer: I understand what you mean as my 9 year old son is very similar. He gets upset very easily. His mind wanders at night when he's trying to fall asleep, but he typically does not have bad dreams. I asked my son for what he would suggest since my boys love to help out others kids. Instead of just tell me which crystals he recommends, he said he wanted to write to your son personally. So this next bit is from him before I get into my recommendations.
Hi, its me Austin usually I listen to my favorite meditation, "Angel Garden". I will probably fall a sleep like always and or I will also hold my Howlite, because in Angle Garden it says, "Put your worries and troubles in to the bucket. Did you know that this bucket lives in a wishing well? Then you put your wish in the well... yada, yada, yada, and that usually calms me down. =)
Like my mom said I am like that too. Usually I would go out side and ground my self not like the,"YOU'RE GROUNDED" but the healing grounding you can do it with the singing bowl, tuning fork, and a Sodalite. Almost every day I will feel like this and it helps. =)
The meditation that Austin was referring to is a sleep meditation for children from Meditation Oasis. If you click the link above it will take you directly to that link or you can go to Meditation Oasis podcast section and it is #40 on the list. The meditation is 15 minutes long, but 8 minutes of it is just relaxation music. We downloaded the meditation and them my husband burned it onto a CD for Austin and we added more relaxing music at the end for him. This helps him to relax. I know you mentioned your son isn't having bad dreams, which is wonderful. Austin just wanted to let your son know what he does to relax so he doesn't feel as upset. Howlite is a good calming crystal and can help to calm emotions.
For a sensitive person, especially a child, I'd recommend Sodalite. It helps with calming the overactive mind which can often be at the root of many of the emotional upsets. When our mind starts wandering, we can easily become worried, anxious, or upset at the negative thoughts that pop into our minds. Sodalite can help him to gain more control over his emotions. It can also help him to release fears, worries, and the sadness that he feels so strongly. Rose Quartz is another crystal that can help sensitive people balance their emotions and feel that loving, comforting energy that is needed when they are upset.
While I feel Sodalite is the best crystal for your son, I'm going to go into some other crystals and things that can help him to protect himself as an empath. First off, if he can, have him visualize a protective a protective bubble around him. He can visualize the bubble as any color that he would like. White or gold are common color. I personally love the visual of the rainbow/iridescent bubbles that kids blow during the Summer. Have him visualize his bubble all around him protecting him from any negative energies. Only love and happiness can make its way into the bubble. This will help to give him an energetic shield.
Grounding is another important way to help him control his emotions and empathic gifts. A quick visualization for grounding is to visualize tree roots coming out of your feet and digging deep into the Earth. A couple of my favorite grounding and protective crystals include Smoky Quartz, Black Tourmaline, Hematite, and Apache Tears.
Amethyst is a good crystals for empaths. It offers protection, but it also has a strong connection to intuition and psychic abilities so that he can learn to work with and control is empathic gifts. Apache Tear helps to protect again negativity and psychic attacks. It is a form of Obsidian. Obsidian is an excellent shield, but I find it to be too powerful at times and it might be a little too strong for your son. Apache Tear is a more gentle form and it also helps him to work through and release the emotions. It is grounding and protective, so it can act as a shield against other people's negativity. You might want to take a peek at my Psychic Protection crystal tip to see if there are any of those crystals that he is drawn to.
If he is picking up energies in your home then I strongly encourage you to sage your house. This can make a big difference to clear out any energies that may have been brought into the home that he is sensitive to. You might also want to look at my Crystals for House Protection article which goes into saging and crystals that are helpful for protecting the house and you.
That leads me to one of my last crystal suggestions. Selenite is one that I feel this is a wonderful protection crystal, especially for children. It has a strong connection to the angelic realm, so it can help them feel safe and it helps to promote a peaceful environment. He could have this in his room, by his bed. I hope these suggestions help him. Make sure he knows he is not alone at all. There are others out there just like him and his sensitivity is a gift. It means he has been blessed with an extra special, loving heart. He'll grow up to do incredible things to help others. :) Much love to you both from me and Austin.
